Biography
Dr. Joshua Nielson is a native of Blanding, Utah and a graduate of San
Juan High School. He received his Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science
from Brigham Young University. Following college he was accepted to medical
school at Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, and
earned his Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree. He said he felt fortunate
to attend family practice residency at Idaho State University, following
medical school, where he was taught so much about practicing medicine
as a family doctor.
Dr. Nielson is a board certified family practice physician. He has been
in practice for 10 years. The first 3 years of his career were spent practicing
in Red Mesa, Arizona, working for Indian Health Services. He then began
working for Utah Navajo Health System, in Montezuma Creek, Utah, and eventually
for the UNHS Blanding Family Practice, in Blanding, Utah.
Following high school, before he began his college studies, Dr. Nielson
spent two years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints in the Ecuador, Guayaquil Mission. He married his wife, Andrea,
while attending Brigham Young University and they started their family,
during medical school.
“We feel blessed we can raise our four children in Blanding,”
Dr. Nielson explained. “I am happy to be living in San Juan County.
I have always loved this area. I also appreciate the outdoors. I love
to spend time on Elk Ridge, in the Bears Ears area, where I grew up ranching.”
